Konkona Sen Sharma does not fit into the conventional Bollywood actress mould. She exercised her acting talents initially in contemporary cinema moving every now and then into the commercial stream.

Konkona Sen was born in New Delhi, India on 3 December 1979 to Mukul Sharma, a science writer and journalist and Aparna Sen, an actress and film director. Kalyan Ray, an author, is her stepfather. She has an older sister, Kamalini Chatterjee.
Konkona’s maternal grandfather is Chidananda Dasgupta, who was one of the founding members of the Calcutta Film Society. He was also a film critic, scholar, writer, and professor. Her grandmother Supriya Dasgupta was the cousin of Jibananda Das, a Bengali poet.
She did her schooling at Modern High School for Girls and Calcutta International School. She graduated with a degree in English from St Stephen’s College, New Delhi.
Konkona Sen is engaged to actor Ranvir Shorey.

1983 Konkona got her first taste as an actress, as a child artiste in Indira (1983).
2000 to 2005 In 2000, she acted in the Bengali movie Ek Je Aachhe Kanya as Ria. In Rituparno Ghosh’s Titli (2001) she shared screen space with her mother Aparna Sen. They played mother-daughter onscreen too. Her portrayal of the orthodox Tamil Brahmin, Mrs Iyer, in Aparna Sen’s Mr & Mrs Iyer (2002), won her the National Film Award for Best Actress.
She then played Amu in Shonali Bose’s Amu (2005) about the 1984 riots when Sikhs were targeted. In Madhur Bhandarkar’s Page 3 (2005) she reached out to a wider audience and her performance as a disillusioned journalist was appreciated. In Aparna Sen’s 15 Park Avenue, she did a convincing job as a schizophrenic. The movie also starred Shabana Azmi as her older sister and Rahul Bose as her lover.
2006 to 2008 Rajat Kapoor’s Mixed Doubles and Naseeruddin Shah’s Yun Hota Tho Kya Hota were her two releases in 2006, followed by another award winning performance in Vishal Bharadwaj’s Omkara as Langda Tyagi’s wife, Indu. She won a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.
She played Noorie in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Traffic Signal (2007) and Shruti in Life in a Metro (2007), which won her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Laga Chunari Mein Daag (2007) and Aaja Nachle (2007) both failed to do well. She made a brief appearance in Fashion (2008).
2009 Konkana Sen Sharma’s first release in 2009 was The President Is Coming. Her performance as Maya Rao garnered good reviews. She played the lead in Zoya Akhtar’s Luck By Chance, opposite Farhan Akhtar, as a struggling actress. Her other release was Wake Up Sid with Ranbir Kapoor and it was a hit.
2010 She has atleast eight movies lined up for 2010 and this includes Rituparno Ghosh’s Sunglass with Madhavan and Raima Sen. Another movie, 8, is a montage of eight short films directed by eight directors. She will also be seen in Mira Nair’s Shantaram and Vinay Shukla’s Mirch.
