Mala Sinha Biography
Mala Sinha was daughter of Albert Sinha was born on 11 November 1936 in Calcutta. Her birth Name was Alda but her friends called her as a Dalda so she changed her name. She took participated in drama and play when she was in school. Ardhendu Bose, Bengali Film Director saw acting of Mala Sinha at school and gave offer to her as heroine. He also took permission from her father and performed first film named "Roshanara" released in 1952.
She was actress, dancer and dancer also. She was one of the beauties during 1950s and very modern. She always performed the character which was heart of the story. Mala performed two films in Calcutta and moved to Mumbai for shooting of Bengali films. In Mumbai she met to playback singer, Geeta Dutt. Geeta Dutt introduced her with Kidar Sharma, director of film. Kidar Sharma then cast her in his film named "Rangeen Ratein" as a main heroine. She always sang on A.I.R. before becoming an actress but she never sang as a playback singer in the films.
In the year 1957, she performed film "Pyaasa". For this film Guru Dutt (Bollywood film director and actor) cast her. Firstly for this film he was cast to the Madhubala but she performed that film gave very memorable performance and played role of women who decided to marry with rich man rather than unsuccessful man (poet).
Mala performed many film with the actor and director Raj Kapoor such as "Parvarish" released in 1958, "Phir Subah Hogi" in 1958 and the film "Main Nashe Mein Hoon" which was released in 1959. She again performed hard role in "Love Marriage" directed by Dev Anand and "Dhool Ka Phool" both were released in 1959. She was opening heroine and performed with many new actors such as "Anapadh" with Dharmendra, "Hariyali" with Manoj Kumar, "Dillagi with Sanjay Khan and "Sanjog" with the actor Amitabh Bachchan. Some of her memorable films were "Hariyali Aur Raasta" released in 1962, "Anapadh" in 1962, "Gumaraah in 1963, and the film "Aankhen" which was released in 1967.
Mala then moved towards Nepali films in year 1966. Her first Nepali film was "Maitighar" and performed with C.P.Lohani. She then got married with C.P.Lohani who was estate owner and actor. Now she is living with her daughter, Pratibha Sinha and husband in the Mumbai.
