Moon Moon Sen was born on 28th March 1948 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Her mother was Suchitra Sen, a renowned actress while her father Dibanath Sen was Adinath Sen’s son. The glamour industry aside, Moon Moon Sen also has royal associations. Dinanath Seth, her great grandfather was the Diwan of the Maharaja of Tripura.
Sen is married to Bharat Dev Sharma who belongs to Tripura’s royal family. His mother was the Princess of Cooch Behar and her older sister Gayatri Devi is the Maharani of Jaipur. The Sens have two daughters, Raima and Riya, who are actresses.
She completed her education at Loreto Convent in Darjeeling and Loreto College, Kolkata. She has a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature from the Jadavpur University in Kolkata. Sen also studied art under Jamini Roy.
Before entering cinema, which happened only after her marriage, Sen was a teacher. She taught at Ballygunge Girl’s School, a film school Chitrabani as well as a boy’s school in Kolkata.

Moon Moon Sen, though not as recognized as her mother, did well in Bengali cinema. She acted in movies like Neel Nirjane, Sopan and Baidurya Rahasya.
In Bollywood, she never played any major roles and was seen in Andar Bahar (1984) in which she had rain sequence with Jackie Shroff which was popular. Her other movies were Mrinal Sen’s Ek Din Achanak (1989); as Madhuri Dixit’s sister in 100 Days (1991); Balaji Telefilms’ Kucch To Hai (2003) and in Anjan Dutt’s Bow Barracks Forever (2007).
