BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S - FASHION FROM THE MOVIE

Photobucket
A lot of fuss has been made over Audrey Hepburn over the years. As Holly Golightly she captured the hearts of many a man and woman. Naturally, she was so sweet and sexy, a charmer and a goof and we loved her for it. But above all Breakfast at Tiffany's has been worshiped by fashion followers for decades. Style paraded around so recklessly as if that's just how we live our lives, it was decadent and above all, fun.

So, naturally all the attention gravitated towards Audrey Hepburn and her chic outfit changes, but little has been said of Paul the love interest.

Photobucket

When I grow up I want to be George Peppard as Paul Varjac. From the sleek side-path to his grace and good-manners. I loved everything about this man because so few men today conduct themselves like him. Not the sex-for-money thing though, of course. And yet he is a little bit awkward and it only adds to the on-screen chemisty of the duo since she is so direct with him. Plus it's so wonderful that the two of the characters just jumped head-first into their roles after meeting.

Paul Varjac if you haven't seen the movie is a gigilo who wants to end things with his... employer once he meets Holly Golightly. Throughout the movie the eccentric Golightly drags Paul, or Frank as she renamed him all over as she schemes to marry José for his money and he tried to convince her not to.

Photobucket

Of course the most well-known or popular scene in the movie is the lavish party which is oddly still conducted like a frat party from today. This is where we see Paul in his slim blue suit and skinny tie. Towards the 1960's the longer and wider cut started to fade away. A more refined and slimmer look appeared. Details like a simple folded pocket square complete this look.

Photobucket

When we first meet Paul it is also the first time he meets Holly. He is wearing a wonderful combination which takes a more formal look down a few notches by adding a cardigan. The varying tones are important to note. The woolen jacket matched with a beige/camel cardigan seems perfectly assembled which tells you he dresses well but isn't so strict with is look.

Photobucket
For cities like Cape Town it's not as easy to don items like a Burberry trench because of the immense heat, but come July August September it gets cold and wet like anywhere else. Paul still maintains his style throughout the movie but as the more urgent scenes come forward he wears a beige overcoat over a grey woolen jacket and sticks with the white button down and black tie. You can have more fun in terms of colour though. A blue shirt would easily suffice over a white one and you wouldn't even need a tie for either looks.

Photobucket
If you're neat, charming and well-mannered it would be the perfect accessory to any of these looks. Prove them wrong about chivalry being dead along with the old-fashioned gentleman. Somebody. Anybody!

GUCCI GUILTY HOMME FRAGRANCE

Another sent on my to-smell list is Gucci's newest offering for men. With lavender, citrus and patchouli among the scents, the new Gucci Guilty promises a pleasing version to their women's perfume. The campaign as you may recall (released Dec. 2010) was beautifully shot by Frank Miller and features the gorgeous Evan Rachel Wood (hugely underestimated actress if you ask me) and Chris Evans. The soundtrack features Bat for lashes covering Strangelove originally by Depeche Mode.

Watch out for Alien Mike Tyson in Men In Black III

WASHINGTON: One of the most lethal boxers of all times, Mike Tyson, is all set to make his impact yet again in the Hollywood with a role in the science fiction comedy movie Men In Black III.

The movie is due to hit cinemas in 2012 and also has franchise stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith. Mike Tyson will play an alien in the movie.

Mike Tyson, 44, told the Entertainment Weekly, “I’m also lined up to do Men in Black III. Probably an alien or something. I have no idea. But we’ll find out one day.”
Tyson is not a novice to the film industry as he had played a short role in The Hangover, released in 2009.

Talking about the sequel of The Hangover, the aggressive Tyson said, “It’s going to be amazing. I play Mike Tyson and playing Mike Tyson, you’re liable to see anything. That’s the privilege I have of being Mike Tyson”.

NADAL FOR ARMANI JEANS

Photobucket
When I posted the news that Raphael Nadal would replace Christiano Ronaldo as body face of Armani jeans the opinions were varied. Would he make a suitable model for the brand? Is his face as marketable as Beckham and Ronaldo? Apparently so. Here are some of the new images that have been released for both Fox and Nadal's respective campaigns. The images look great but they could have been a little more inventive with posture positioning and theme. No?

ADAM LEVINE GETS NAKED FOR A CAUSE

Photobucket
Awareness is a lesson we are trying to teach in our country everyday with HIV and AIDS. Part of the disease is not knowing what your body is going through, further affirming why the "Know your status" phrase has been making rounds in South Africa in the media. The same applies, obviously, to other diseases like Cancer. It is imperative to know as much as you can about it so that you can fight it.
My mother has survived cancer twice (the second time during Christmas) and so as you can imagine I appreciate the efforts of celebrities who are aiming to create awareness. There is a long list of celebrities who have had testicular cancer, the most famous survivor being Lance Armstrong. While it's all well and good for people to enjoy the nudity of an admired celebrity I prefer to focus on the cause at hand.

The shoot immediately reminded me of the 1993 cover of Rolling Stone featuring Janet Jackson and then fiancé René Elizondo, Jr. cupping her breasts from behind. Now the image of Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine has been stripped for cancer awareness in the February issue of Cosmopolitan UK. The hands belong to none other than his girlfriend and Victoria Secret model Anne Vyalitsyna.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON?

Photobucket
It doesn't surprise me that Romeo Beckham sits between Prince William and William Gilchrist on GQ's Best dressed list. He is, after all the son of David Beckham who proved years ago that style and sports can marry quite happily without taking anything away from a man's masculinity. And then his mother, ex-Spice Girl. Ex-Cavalli everything-just-about dresser. And now chic, redeemed fashion designer. He was bound to learn something.

With only 8 years of life though, that is surprising. He beat Christopher Bailey, Mark Ronson and Jude Law for goodness sake. Quite a feat if you consider the collective experience these boys have with the fashion industry in one way or another. But of course he is the first of the Beckham sons to take an interest in fashion as a possible career. Just recently it was revealed that Romeo Beckham sunglasses would be available to other stylish kids. Well, how do you argue that?

Kanye West chooses Balmain for upcoming tour

Photobucket
"The voice of this generation" has spoken. For his upcoming tour he has requested Christophe Decarnin for Balmain to design his costumes. Not the shy fashionisto, this should prove, if anything an interesting partnership. Dsquared with Britney, Roberto Cavalli with the Spice Girls, it's no wonder that Kanye West added his name to the list.

Instead of designing all new get-up West is having Decarnin re-design part of the Balmain 2010 collection. It has been reported that he specifically wants the "seventies-centric pantsuits, cutaway coats and gilded jeans" (Hintmag). I personally think this is a great idea, especially since West has attended Balmain shows for a few seasons now and music and fashion always go well together.

Jude Law in new Dior Homme commercial

Hollywood is mixing it up again. Why bother using a regular director for a commercial when you have heavyweights like Martin Scorsese or Frank Miller on-board. Now Madonna's ex has been hired to film the latest Dior Homme Campaign featuring Ritchies other rumored ex Michaela Kocianova and DH favorite Jude Law

JULIA ROBERTS
ROBYN: On the one hand Jules copped some flak for wearing shorts (gasp, at her age? gasp, on a red carpet?) and on the other hand she was accused of being too boring. Seriously? Can this incredibly beautiful, talented, successful woman never win? I think that she looks amazing. Look at those pins! She totally rocks the DVF shorts and smartens it all up with the Stella McCartney jacket. I think that it is a bit risky and a bit summer fun, probably unlike the movie. But that may just be me since I must be in a team of about seven people who haven't bought into the whole Cult of Eat,Pray,Love. Just call me an outlier, Gladwell.

MARCO: Obviously a better choice than the tent-like Kimono dress she wore this week in Japan. She has quite the body on her and those stems could belong to any 20 year old girl. Anyone hating on this look is just jealous or close-minded. She keeps it classy by choosing to show a lot of leg and covering the rest. A Tux jacket, the simple jewelery and the shoes, the rich brown of her hair accenting the black; I think it's hot, however old she is. I'm a proud cultee!

CHACE CRAWFORD
MARCO: There are so many things to love about this look. This is what happens when a pile of seemingly ordinary pieces pull together and make magic. It says, "this man doesn't take himself too seriously but he knows what he's doing". It's the simplicity of the styling, nothing is over-worn, in saying nothing he's saying a lot! We all know my thoughts on rolled up trousers and boat shoes, but look how he wears it without looking like a trend-follower. Chuck may be better dressed but his style is obvious whereas Chace, well he proves that you can be fashionable without back-handing people with his superior styling when he walks in a room.

ROBYN: I think we need to be honest here. This is just sheer deliciousness. And it is unseemly and unprofessional of me to drool quite so much over this poor young boy. I also think that the total scrumptiousness also diverts attention from the actual styling. It is probably a bit self conscious, no? And certainly not original, right? But who cares when Boy Chase + some lovely clothes = one rather overheated old lady. A little gift from us to you on a Friday. Sigh.

TOM FORD 2010 AD CAMPAIGN Ft. NICHOLAS HOULT

Brad Goreski by Terry Richardson

Photobucket

I am a huge fan of Brad Goreski. Having said that I haven't watched more than an episode of his show with Rachel Zoe. His style is fantastic and consistent. I like the bow-tie and glasses theme he keeps. Also I love the fact that he carries a folio or briefcase to formal events. He's one to watch for sure!

Photobucket

He was just shot by the famous Terry Richardson who also likes to appear alongside his subjects. His blog Terry's Diary is FANTASTIC and keeps me there for hours.

Photobucket

And of course if you have not already seen what it is he does, then take a gander at the following clip from Season 2 "The Rachel Zoe project"

Ryan Gosling in Burberry

Featuring an array of who's-who's in Cannes this year, Ryan Gosling walked the Red Carpet with co-star Michelle Williams. Of course unlike most premieres, BLUE VALENTINE was set against the backdrop of yachts and indulgence in Palais Stephanie. It's no wonder that the mighty talented Gosling, 29, dressed in a perfectly tailored Burberry suit ended up taking off his bow-tie, and still looking like a million bucks, scoring major Man of the Cloth points!

Robert Pattinson for Details magazine

Robert Pattinson shot a steamy editorial with Photographer Norman Jean Roy for Details magazine. So while these are the only shots I will show you here (they get a little steamier) you can see the others here.

Including the interview that accompanied the cover model's shoot! Below is a snippet.

COFFEE
It's the unseasonably cold November of 2008 when I go to New York's Bowery Hotel. There's a young man sitting in the garden, wrapped in about nine black sweaters and wearing a wool hat, smoking cigarettes, sipping a latte the size of his head, and furiously making notes on a script in the bitter cold. I have read about teenage girls lighting themselves on fire in front of his hotel, but at the moment Robert Pattinson is warming his hands on a coffee cup.

Hello, I'm Jenny. I think I'm here so you can check me out.
"Okay. I'm Rob. Um . . . would you like some fries? With gravy?"

Allen Coulter, the director of Hollywoodland and a creative force behind The Sopranos, has sent me. He was thinking about doing this movie—it wasn't quite there yet, but I should "come meet Rob."

Rob. When he came to the United States, he slept on his agent's sofa and then got a small part in a movie called Harry Potter and the Something of Something, which grossed nearly $900 million worldwide. And then he made another one, called Twilight, which grossed $385 million in theaters and almost another $200 million in U.S. DVD sales. Box-office riches, like so much of the female population of this planet, follow him from continent to continent, nursing a raging crush.

Coulter suggested I do some rewrite work on Remember Me (for the record, there is only one credited writer, Will Fetters), the first American release in which Rob will portray a mortal, nonmagical, carbon-based life form of the earthly realm—Salvador Dalí, whom he played in Little Ashes, surely doesn't qualify. As Rob scribbles away on the script's pages, it's clear he is starting his own revision process.

Rob's face is constantly busy—especially his kaleidoscopic eyes, which are continually rolling and dilating, because he is always thinking. Over the course of that latte, he contemplates Jimi Hendrix, French fries, girls, art, beer, his cousin the philosopher, girls, truth, God, his dog, girls, and whether this week's stalker has followed him from L.A. I don't think he could turn his brain off if he wanted to.

Despite the legion of fans trailing him from hotel to hotel, laying siege to each like the Roman army, he is neither fearful nor cocky—he's hungry, curious, forever reaching intellectually. That may not sound like a big deal, but think of the context: Complete strangers want to fuck you, shoot you, be you, buy you, sell you, run their fingers through your hair, watch you have sex, hear you pee, eat chips with you, and kidnap you and stuff you in the trunk of their car. And you? You must know more, more, more about exotic tropical diseases.

Rob and I discover we share a mutual fascination with afflictions that maim and disfigure and disgust: He brings up cancrum oris, in which bacteria eat away at your face until you get kind of a window in the side of your head and the entire world sees your teeth; I mention cyclic vomiting syndrome, a condition in which you puke literally all the goddamn time; he delights in lymphatic filariasis, where parasitic worms burrow into your lymph nodes and can make your balls swell to the size of watermelons, forcing you to tote them around in a wheelbarrow.

We come up with a blockbuster hit movie, entitled Candiru Infestation, about a tiny fish that swims up your urethra and into your urinary tract and lodges in your cock with backward-facing umbrella spikes it shoots from its spine....

Mad Hatter Scarf by Paul Smith

It makes sense-- Paul Smith being the 'out of the box' designer that he is, and Johnny Depp being the... well the way 'out of the box' actor that he is.

Depp stars in the highly anticipated 'ALICE IN WONDERLAND' featuring an incredible cast which includes Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter.

Last night I went to watch 'Dear John'. And FYI I got popcorn salt in my eyes, they weren't tears, okay! Anyway during the preview I noticed a scarf worn by the Mad Hatter. I had a feeling it was Paul Smith and later investigated. It is infact Paul Smith, from his Ladies 'Black Label' collection which is available at my wardrobe here in both black and pink!

PART 3 - Robert Downey Jr's style

Hero comes in a new shade! He's quirky yet handsome and seems to fall into all the wrong places in comical scenarios of every kind. So as the borders are stretched on what kind of actors we place in action movies it comes as no surprise that Robert Downey Jr is still a valid member of modern cinema.

His style is non-conformity. Or rather classic with a twist. A t-shirt under a blazer, quirky glasses and his goatee (interesting how all three Top Billing candidates have goatee's?), even double-breasted suits with high-top sneakers.

His sunglass choices are even posted online for you to buy for yourself.

So if you want to duplicate the Robert Downey Jr. style, then get the following:

1) Cartoon tee's to wear under a fitted blazer with jeans
2) Purple tinted sunglasses
3) A mustache or goatee
4) Cardigans/shirts and fun striped ties
5) Neckerchiefs
5) Sherlock Holmes attire with top hat and cane!

PART 2 - Leonardo DiCaprio's style

I wouldn't exaclty call Leonardo DiCaprio, trendy. But what he manages to exude, wether owed to a stylist or not is style and attitude. He is quite simple in his dress sense and I think that's what works. However when it gets to his casual wear it leaves a little to the imagination. With his baseball caps that never seem to leave his head except for premieres, Leo (according to a specific study of all the many photo's taken of him) wears a different cap to every baseball game he attends.

With the red carpet, Leo keeps it classic! And barely ever moves far from his black and white standard. Slick back hair and a 5 o' clock goatee is all you need. And a tan of course.

If you want to look like Leonardo DiCaprio, this is what you need:

1) Basic fitted black suit
2) Slick back hair
3) Baggy jeans and high-tops
4) Day old scruff shaved into a simple goatee
5) A collection of State Baseball caps
6) Nonchalance

HEAR THIS: WE ARE THE WORLD 2.0

Featuring the fantastic vocal stylings of P!NK, Jennifer Hudson, Wyclef Jean and even a little Miley Cyrus.
The track is similar to it's former version except that 2010 has added a wall of rappers including Lil' Wayne and Kanye West. It sounds better than I expected!

The track is available on iTunes and proceeds will go to Haiti relief!

While watching it I couldn't help but notice a tartan shirt that I immediately loved. Kanye West and his Rayban Wayfarers (it must have been bright inside)graced the re-recording of We are the world. It's a gold embellished Studded Givenchy shirt from the 2010 spring collection.

Jak and Jil blog snapped a picure of Panos Yiapanis wearing the shorts version.

Amd for the rest of us... we always have the Bedazzler.

PART 1 - Johnny Depp's Style

His movies are off-centre and his characters are in-depth and often bizarre. He is the ultimate anti-hero and yet he is more successful and mainstream than he would probably like to be. But Johnny Depp has been here for a long time and shows no sign of slowing down.

As discussed on Top Billing with the lovely Kelly Parkhurst, Hollywoods old (well, not that old) greats are placed under a proverbial microscope. Why are they still cool, relevant and prominent sex-symbols after so many years in the game?

Depp is rugged and seems to take little notice of his celebrity. His look is barely ever polished, in fact it's more like he rolled out of bed and put on his glasses and walked out the door. I suppose thats why it works.

To obtain his look, consider the following items to grace your wardrobe:

1) FEDORA HATS
2) BEANIES PULLED BACK JUST ENOUGH TO SEE THE HAIRLINE
3) TORN JEANS
4) BOOTS
5) RINGS (SKULLS IN PARTICULAR)
6) LONG NECK CHAINS, LOT'S AND LOT'S OF THEM
7) HIS CLASSIC MOSCOT ORIGINAL GLASSES
8) A GOATEE!
9) LEATHER WRIST STRAPS
10) ATTITUDE!

Ryan Reynolds smells...

Ryan Reynolds isn't satisfied conquering Rom-Coms, Action movies and arguably the sexiest woman in the world. No, the Canadian Star has ventured where many a celeb has gone. Fragrance! But lucky for us it won't be his own celebrity stink-- but an endorsement from giant Hugo Boss.

The 33 year old actor said: "BOSS is a brand that not only represents classic style and sophistication, but inspires men to work hard, embrace opportunities and strive for success in all aspect of their lives. I'm honored BOSS invited me to be the face of its new men's fragrance."

And Hugo Boss' global marketing director had this to say of him: "We're delighted to be working with Ryan as the face of the new BOSS fragrance as he perfectly captures the ethos of the brand. He is stylish, dynamic and confident with a tenacity and determination that make him an ideal role model of modern success."

Oh that and he's incredibly good-looking.

Another bewitching Burberry Ad Campaign

Take one rising child star, mix her in with the legend that is Mario Testino and add the creative director of the turn around brand of the last decade and you get this...

BURBERRY SPRING SUMMER 2010 ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN
Photobucket

''This campaign celebrates our heritage and our timeless Burberry icons. The energy of the images and the dynamic cast reflect the different attitudes and expressions of the Burberry guy and girl."

Working once more with Emma Watson of Potter fame, the "classic and effortless beauty" as they call her. And we can see why because she is suited in front of the camera. But what interests us a little more was the decision to cast younger brother Alex as one of the brooding models alongside Matt Gilmour, Max Hurd and George Craig. Although the clothing is spectacular as usual the campaign does nestle a little closely to Burb-oring...

"We always talk about how much fun we have making these images and I wanted to capture some of the excitement that you feel on set when all these different creative attitudes and personalities come together. Mario has shot these as both stills and video so we can share some of that energy with a wider audience”.
Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer
