JACQUES NAUDE AND JULIAN SCHRATTER FOR TERRANOVA 2011 CAMPAIGN

Great hair finds Jacques Naude and Julian Schratter for Terranova's latest campaign. While it looks like the accompanying images to Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' I am still thoroughly enjoying the quick escape. Dressed in stylish American Summer attire the Wilhelmina models bring us some great images a moment away from the busy city.

GUCCI GUILTY HOMME FRAGRANCE

Another sent on my to-smell list is Gucci's newest offering for men. With lavender, citrus and patchouli among the scents, the new Gucci Guilty promises a pleasing version to their women's perfume. The campaign as you may recall (released Dec. 2010) was beautifully shot by Frank Miller and features the gorgeous Evan Rachel Wood (hugely underestimated actress if you ask me) and Chris Evans. The soundtrack features Bat for lashes covering Strangelove originally by Depeche Mode.

NAUTICAL SCHMAUTICAL 2011

Photobucket

Maybe I was one in my last life (it would explain why I don't eat fish) but sailors and anchors are some of my favorite things. Perhaps it's just a love for an older time when things were simpler. These photographs are somewhat reminiscent of these times.

For their 2011 collection Larry Schwarz brings on Yuri Pleskun, Cole Mohr, Ash Stymest and Nicola Wincenc to go shoreside for the photoshoot. All aboard!

MORE ANDROGYNY, JUST A LITTLE SAME-SAME

Photobucket

Andre Pejic was the first male model to go mainstream androgynous. Since the industry responded so well to the look of a 'femiman' model more have followed, naturally. As was the case for Lirfon's 2011 campaign offering. Not really sure how I feel about the collection itself but I suppose there is nothing wrong with a little competition in terms of model use. It is a little appropriate just how similarly the shoot was adapted but in this day and age what is original anymore?

On a side-note I found the female model Sasha Ap to have a striking resemblance to Lourdes Leon, daughter of Madonna.

PAUL SMITH AND RAPHA SS11

Photobucket

Paul Smith, as the legend goes, was planning to be a professional cyclist when he had an awful accident. Soon after he starting hanging out with a bunch of hip artists and musicians where he met his wife Pauline, a designer. Eventually Pauline stopped and Paul took over (no, their names are not a joke). His company became hugely popular and successful and so it makes perfect sense that the bike-mad designer eventually tried his hand at designing bike-wear.

It turns out there is a whole race of people obsessed with cycling. As we Cape Town locals know. Rapha are performance road-wear specialists and recently joined Paul Smith in collaborating some designer cycling duds. I previously showed you the video, and to accompany it here is a series of photographs for their SS11 campaign.

But do take a look at the video below which I stumbled upon this morning. Thoroughly interesting to see the man himself talking about his cycling past and how modern cyclists are not as "stratospheric" as other sports stars. For their clothing go to Rapha's webiste to see the collection.

RALPH LAUREN S/S 11 FEATURING OLLIE EDWARDS

Photobucket
Featuring Ollie Edwards for the S/S 2011 collection for Ralph Lauren.

I have always loved Ralph Lauren campaigns. While the styling is obviously modern it's the grainy photography that reminds me so much of 1980s fashion that I miss. Plus his suiting has always had a very specific aesthetic often adding pinstripes and a double-breast that belongs somewhere between Wall street and American Psycho. Even his model looks a little removed and unreachable.

ADREJ PEJIC FOR GAULTIER 2011

Photobucket
In a time when using androgyny in fashion could/should be a normal occurrence it is somehow still met with confusion or distaste from some. I told you about Andrej Pejic. I told you about his long blonde hair and feminine features, the various interest from designers. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, because now Pejic can add 'high-end catwalk model' to his resume. Jean-Paul Gaultier decided to celebrate the model by using him for his new Spring campaign. In addition to this, Gaultier, who is known for his eccentric shows invited Pejic to join the Gaultier crew in the latest showing of his collection. In fur and high-heels. Does this mean similar models will be making appearances in both mens and ladies shows?

NADAL FOR ARMANI JEANS

Photobucket
When I posted the news that Raphael Nadal would replace Christiano Ronaldo as body face of Armani jeans the opinions were varied. Would he make a suitable model for the brand? Is his face as marketable as Beckham and Ronaldo? Apparently so. Here are some of the new images that have been released for both Fox and Nadal's respective campaigns. The images look great but they could have been a little more inventive with posture positioning and theme. No?

DAVE MATTHEWS FOR JOHN VARVATOS SPRING 2011

Photobucket

South African born musician Dave Matthews has been chosen to front the latest campaign for John Varvatos. Danny Clinch sets him up as the one-man-band, and he even has a monkey. Matthews is a big fan of vintage instruments and it's said that inspiration for the shoot came from the late 1800's and early 1900's street performers.

BURBERRY LATEST CAMPAIGN IMAGES

Photobucket

Shot by Mario Testino, Christopher Bailey's young broody lot of models pose for the Spring 2011 campaigns for both London and Prorsum. Featuring Tara Ferry and Jacob Young they pretty much just sit on stones looking flawless as usual.

In similar news Burberry dressed Disney star turned serious actor Zac Efron in a beautiful three-piece  suit for the Peoples choice awards held on the 5th. With his signature hair and that "beard" gone I do believe this boy is looking sharp. The tie clip was a nice touch! Could that be the same suit in the above campaign image?

DOLCE AND GABBANA SPRING 2011 CAMPAIGN

Photobucket
Featuring the usual suspects in their Spring 2011 campaign, Dolce & Gabbana hired Steven Klein once again to shoot. David Gandy, Noah Mills, Sam Webb and a favorite of mine, Tony Ward are depicted in yet another old-worldly scene. Pushing boats this season, it seems. Can we anticipate another nautical theme?

Nadal to pose in his underwear for Armani

Photobucket
Joining the long list of sports stars adding "model" to their C.V's, Raphael Nadal has official replaced Christiano Ronaldo as the body face for Armani Underwear. "The King of Clay" will be following a successful formula. In Britain it is reported that Armani tight white briefs rose by 10% following campaigns with scantily clad stars like David Beckham. It is good to see that Armani is using not only Soccer players but Tennis players too. After all, Nadal is no. 1 in the world.

Spanish model Oriol Elcacho who has done prior shoots for Ralph Lauren's Purple label and is the face for Bvlgari's AQVA now joins Ermenegildo Zegna for their latest campaign. A simple and classy retelling. Exactly what 100 years in the business can result in.

Vivienne Westwood MAN 2010 campaign

Keeping it in the family, Vivienne Westwood's latest campaign features her husband Andreas Kronthaler and Pamela Anderson once more. In addition Select model Tati features alongside the usual trio. It was Juergen Teller who photographed the somewhat trashy shoot but Westwood is a true artist and the campaign is nothing short of dirty-fabulous.

Andreas, never shy to prove an equal to his wifes eccentricities recently had this to say:

“Nobody can avoid tradition—but you should not confuse it with conservatism. You must interpret tradition, otherwise it is stale, dead and boring.”
