Pooja Umashankar is a famous Tamil actress and she is also a part of the Sinhala film industry.
POOJA UMASHANKAR
Pooja Umashankar was born as Pooja Gautami Umashankar on 25th June 1981 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She finished her schooling from Baldwin's School in Bangalore and holds a Master's Degree in Business & Management from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore . Her father Umashankar is a Kannadiga who works as a manager in Hindustan Unilever Limited in Valparai, and her mother is a Sri Lankan Sinhalese. Pooja can speak Kannada, Tamil, Sinhalese, and English.
CAREER
Pooja Umashankar made her film debut with Tamil film Ullam Ketkumae directed by the late Jeeva. This was a story about five college friends which included actors like Shaam, Laila, Arya, and Asin Thottumkal. Jay Jay and Attagasam were her next two releases.
In Bala's Naan Kadavul the actress played the lead role and was highly appreciated for her performance opposite actor Arya. She received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Female Character Artiste for this movie. More success followed with films like Anjalika (2005) and Asai Man Piyambanna (2007) and she was noticed by the Sri Lankan Film Industry also and she got a chance to be anambassador of Sri Lanka Telecom.
She played a blind girl in Nenu Devudni (2009) and was seen was in a guest appearance in TN 07 AL 4777. She is currently working on Venkat Prabhu's Goa(2009) along with stars like Julie Fine, Nouva Monika Wahlgren and Sneha.
Pooja has also participated in some famous stage shows like Netru, Indru, Naalai by Mani Ratnam. She judged the dance show, Aatam Paatam Kondatam on Kalaignar TV.
